What We Support

Advanced Windows Application Development

We take on Windows projects that are difficult to handle through general development — Windows-specific features, legacy environments, special operational requirements, and integration with external devices. On the premise that you will place a formal development order once we judge the project feasible, the initial feasibility investigation is provided free of charge in principle. Of course, your project does not have to be high-difficulty.

The initial feasibility investigation is provided free of charge in principle

On the premise that you will place a formal development order once we judge the project feasible, we conduct the initial technical investigation needed for the order decision free of charge in principle. If you find it hard to consult us because you "don't know whether it's even possible," that's exactly the kind of project to bring to us.

Windows projects like these are welcome

  • Another company told you it was "too difficult"
  • It seems possible on Windows, but you don't know how to achieve it
  • You want to move an old Windows app to a modern environment
  • You want to use a special Windows API or OS feature
  • You want to integrate with an external device such as USB / HID
  • You need to carry credentials or app state across users, devices, or sessions
  • You want to investigate an unexplained crash or resource leak

What KomuraSoft means by “advanced Windows development”

We don't only take on projects where the specification is fixed and completion just means implementing it as written.

We also take on projects that involve technical uncertainty — questions like "can this even be done," "which mechanism on Windows should we use," or "why isn't the current system behaving as expected."

Investigation
Hypothesis
Verification
Approach design
Implementation

Working through this flow to eliminate technical uncertainty step by step is, in our view, the essence of advanced Windows development.

We provide the initial feasibility investigation free of charge in principle

For advanced development, technical verification is sometimes needed before an estimate can be given.

At KomuraSoft, on the premise that you will place a formal development order once the project is judged feasible, we carry out the initial investigation needed for the estimate and order decision free of charge in principle.

Please feel free to contact us even for projects where you're not sure whether it's possible and find it hard to consult us before placing an order.

*If extended verification, a dedicated environment, a prototype / PoC, or a detailed investigation report is required, a fee may apply. In that case we will always let you know in advance.

Areas of advanced Windows development we handle

Windows Desktop Applications

Windows-only software built with C++, C#, .NET, and more.

Development Using Windows OS-Specific Features

Special requirements using the Windows API, processes, services, sessions, users, permissions, and more.

Legacy Windows Software Analysis & Modernization

Investigation, modification, rebuilding, and migration of old applications to the latest Windows.

External Device & Hardware Integration

USB, HID, serial communication, dedicated input devices, and more.

Bug & Performance Issue Analysis

Crashes, memory / handle leaks, performance degradation, hard-to-reproduce failures, and more.

Support for Special Operating Environments

Offline environments, closed networks, special permission controls, state management across multiple users/devices, and more.

How we solve technical problems

1
Breakdown and reproduction We break the problem into small verification units and organize the conditions needed to reproduce it.
2
Checking internal behavior and comparing approaches As needed, we check Windows' internal behavior and API specifications, and compare multiple approaches.
3
Verify, then implement After reducing technical risk through on-device verification and prototyping, we move on to full implementation.

Technical examples / case studies

Analyzing an Unexplained Resource Leak in a Windows App

Problem: The app only crashes after long-running operation. What made it hard: It doesn't reproduce in a short test. Investigation: Observed the handle-count trend and narrowed the work to a handle-leak investigation. Solution: Strengthened monitoring and boundary logs so growth could be tracked, and organized the findings for later failure-path testing.

Analyzing a Communication Stall with an Industrial Camera

Problem: Communication with an external device rarely stalls. What made it hard: The reproduction conditions were unknown. Investigation: Cross-referenced packet captures with OS-side behavior and identified the pause as TCP retransmission waiting. Solution: Adjusted the configuration that affected retransmission wait and documented the observation and narrowing steps.

Analyzing the Behavior of Existing Windows Software and Designing a Replacement System

Problem: Neither the spec documents nor the original developer remained. What made it hard: The only spec was the running software itself. Investigation: Reconstructed the specification by analyzing actual behavior and dependencies. Solution: Designed a replacement approach that allowed staged migration. Even where we can't name the actual project, we publish case studies with the technical challenge anonymized. See the full list of case studies.

Why KomuraSoft is chosen

  • Technical strength focused on Windows
  • Engineers conduct the hearing and investigation directly
  • We take on projects from the stage where the approach is still unclear
  • We handle domestic and international projects from Japan

Software engineering from Japan.
Careful investigation, clear communication and reliable delivery.

From consultation to delivery

  1. Contact us
  2. Confirm requirements and challenges
  3. Free initial investigation, if needed
  4. Proposal of the approach and estimate
  5. Formal order
  6. Development and verification
  7. Delivery and maintenance

For projects with high technical uncertainty, we proceed while sharing the constraints and progress uncovered during investigation.

Talk to us even if you “don’t know whether it’s possible”

Talk to us about your Windows project even at the stage where you don't know if it's achievable.

"Another company said it was too difficult"
"It seems achievable on Windows, but you don't know how"
"You just want to confirm whether it's technically possible first"

We take on projects from that stage. On the premise that you will place a formal development order once we judge it feasible, the initial feasibility investigation is provided free of charge in principle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the initial feasibility investigation really free of charge?

On the premise that you will place a formal development order once we judge the project feasible, we carry out the initial investigation needed for the estimate and order decision free of charge in principle. However, a fee may apply if extended verification, a dedicated environment, a prototype / PoC, or a detailed investigation report is required. In that case we will always let you know before starting.

Can we consult you even if the requirements aren't fixed yet?

Yes. You can reach out even at the stage of "it seems possible on Windows, but we don't know how to achieve it." We'll work through organizing the challenge and the technical investigation together with you.

Can you handle a project another company turned down as "too difficult"?

That's exactly the kind of project we're good at. We investigate down to Windows' internal behavior and API specifications, and answer only after technically verifying whether it can be done, and if so, which approach would achieve it.

Can we request investigation only, with no development?

Yes. We also take on single-engagement requests limited to investigating and diagnosing unexplained defects. In this case the investigation itself is the paid work (this differs from the free initial feasibility investigation conducted before an order).

Do you take on requests from outside Japan?

Yes. In addition to clients within Japan, we take on contract Windows development requests from overseas as well.
